Wow, the summer is flying by! I can’t believe that today starts my 16-week training cycle for the CNO Financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon! As I was running this morning I took some time to reflect on my goals for this upcoming adventure. So here a couple that came to my mind during this morning’s session.
First, I want to complete the race! My first and only attempt at a marathon a few years ago ended with me getting hurt at mile 10 and not being able to finish. It was tough experience and one that was very frustrating as my training leading up to the race had been pretty much perfect. However, that day was just not my day. So, this year’s CNO Monumental Marathon is about redemption for me!
The second goal I have is to enjoy the process. I know what many of you are thinking how can someone possibly enjoy the process of getting ready for a marathon or half marathon or 5k. For me, it’s about seeing changes week by week. I enjoy seeing the changes in my fitness and how my body adjusts to running from the hot humid conditions to the perfect fall days. It’s about growing as an individual. Knowing that some days are going to be great and some days are going to not be so great I find weirdly enjoyable.
What are your goals for this year’s race? I know it’s easy for some to focus on time but what part of the process are you looking forward to or which part are you not looking forward to? I would love to hear your ideas!
