Record-Breaking Racing Meets Indianapolis Community
INDIANAPOLIS – June 20, 2026 – The Indianapolis 5K and Monumental Mile returned for its 13th year of celebrating wellness and breaking records. Over a thousand people participated in the festive summer celebration as they raced through the heart of downtown with family, friends and dogs!
The event brought back the fan-favorite doggie dash and community mile, open to everyone. It also celebrated friendly competition with the 5K and mile, along with highly competitive elite races.
The race began with a bang as people sped from the start line and raced through the heart of downtown. Justin Santiago won the 5K race at just 16:24. Chloe Tragesser was close behind at 18:06, taking home the female title.
A new event record was set at the Doggie Dash this year with a mile of just 4:37 by Matt Peterson. Peterson broke the previous Doggie Dash mile by 20 seconds. During the community mile, families gathered to support each other on the course with music and motivational posters. The youth and high school brought their own competition with participants breaking personal records and bringing the energy to Indianapolis. Tragesser returned for the youth and high school mile and posted a 5:31 to win the female division of the youth and high school mile.
The competition continued with the elite participants who brought the heat this year as they sped through downtown. Scott Spaanstra won the male elite title with a time of 4:07, only four seconds away from breaking the event record. Mikayla Reed won the women’s title for the second year in a row with a time of 4:36, beating her previous event record by six seconds.
Beyond Monumental introduced a new way to race this year with the Torchy Challenge! These participants finished both the 5K and the mile and took home bragging rights and the commemorative 2026 Torchy award.
On top of celebrating the racers and supporting Friends of Indy Animals, the celebration continued with the 2026 Monumental Corporate Cup. These three awards honor organizations for their commitment to workplace wellness. Fleet Feet took home the award of Small Business Champion, Brooks Running was honored as the Medium Business Champion Award Recipient, and the CNO Financial Group was awarded the Large Business Champion award.
