10TH ANNIVERSARY CAPS OFF A MONUMENTAL DAY OF CELEBRATION

The 2023 Indianapolis 5K & Monumental Mile took place Saturday Morning on Monument Circle. Hundreds of runners, walkers, and elites alike lined up to take on the 5K and 1-Mile courses in downtown Indianapolis. New champions and course record holders were crowned at the foot of the Soldiers & Sailors Monument.

The final four (of 10) races brought much excitement to Meridian Street as national champions were crowned in the USATF Masters Men’s & Women’s Championships and the Men’s & Women’s Elite Race Divisions. Katie Sherron and Bryan Lindsey ran away with the USATF Masters National Titles with finishing times, 5:05 and 4:25 respectively. Sherron crushed the Monument Mile’s Masters Course & Event record (formerly 5:27). In the Elite fields, James Ngandu pulled away from Jackson Siddall in the final stretch with a time of 4:07 to Siddall’s 4:08. Shelby Nolan commanded the Elite Women’s field and broke the tape first with a time of 4:54 to second place-Grace Dwyer’s 5:05.

The biggest winner of the day was local public education. Beyond Monumental made donations totaling $65,000. Organizations that were presented on-site: IPS Foundation and the Lawrence Township School Foundation.
