A SELLOUT & NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TO HEADLINE THE 29TH ANNUAL INDY HALF MARATHON AT FORT BEN

Back for its 29th year, the Indy Half Marathon at Fort Ben returns to the City of Lawrence and the Fort Harrison State Park this Saturday, October 5, 2024. Over 3,100 participants will line up to take on the Half Marathon, 10K, 5K, or the Kids One Mile distances. 

In partnership with the Indiana Sports Corp., the event is slated to host the 2024 USATF Masters Half Marathon National Championships.

Due to popular demand, the Half Marathon is officially sold out. On-site registration will be available on Friday, October 4 for the other distances, while space remains.

Indy Half Marathon at Fort Ben – Schedule of Events:

Friday, October 4 – Expo & Packet Pickup

  • Hours: 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
    • Location: Lawrence Education & Community Center (6501 Sunnyside Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46236)
    • Parking is available on the north side of the Lawrence Education & Community Center building. All attendees will enter through the farthest door from the road, located at the northeast corner of the building.
  • The Expo is open to the public, and is an opportunity for participants to pick up their race materials as well as check out race merch, sponsor activations, and booths from our community partners!
  • On-site registration is limited, and will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. for the 10K, 5K, & Kids One Mile. For more information, please visit indyhalfmarathon.com.

Saturday, October 5 – Race Day

  • 7:45 a.m. Opening Ceremonies Begin – John Stille, Beyond Monumental board member
  • 7:50 a.m. Cadet Honor Guard & National Anthem – Titan Cadet Squadron, McKenzie Center for Innovation & Technology, and Tracie Smith, Lawrence Central High School
  • 8:00 a.m. Half Marathon & 10K Start
  • 8:25 a.m. 5K Start
  • 8:30 a.m. Apex Benefits Monumental Kids Movement 5K Start, featuring 11 Lawrence Township schools and nearly 500 students.
  • 11:00 a.m. Kids One Mile

Things to Watch:

  • An elite field from across the midwest competing for the Indy Half Marathon title. Highlights include:
  • Our 2021 & 2022 Women’s Indy Half winner, Taryn (Thor) Garlington returns to add another title to her resume. Challenging Garlington will be Personal Best Training athlete Hannah Bast, and 2024 St. Jude Rock N’ Roll Half Marathon winner, Katrina Ivancic
  • Headlining the Men’s Elite field will be former Oklahoma Christian University athlete, Bryant Kierns, as well as Working Man’s Track Club member, Robert Hohlman and former Xavier University athlete, Brady Harless who all boast seed times under 1:11:00. 
  • USATF Masters athletes will compete to crown the fastest Masters over the 13.1-mile distance from across the country.
    • Overall half marathon masters event records are 1:05:08 for men, and 1:17:44 for women.
    • Athletes from more than 25 states are represented, including Hawaii, Washington, and Florida. Athletes as young as 40 can compete in the Masters field, our oldest competitor will be 79 years young on race day. 
  • Nearly 500 Lawrence Township students will represent the Apex Benefits Monumental Kids Movement program and take on their culminating 5K this Saturday. These students receive free 5K entry as part of their bi-weekly school running program. This program has expanded from 18 to 60+ Marion County schools since 2013, and this year will feature 11 Lawrence elementary schools and one middle school. 

The event expects over 4,500 participants and spectators. A course map is available here, and a site/parking map can be found here.

Additional parking is available at the Major General Emmett J. Bean Federal Center (8899 E 56th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46216).
