Downtown run/walk meetups will take place every Thursday in May
Beyond Monumental, the 501(c)3 non-profit responsible for the CNO Financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon, in collaboration with the YMCA at City Market, will re-launch the popular Monumental Lunch Run series for spring 2019. Every Thursday in May, the downtown Indianapolis population is invited to take part in a free, casual group run or walk starting at 12:00 PM in front of the YMCA at City Market.
Monumental Lunch Runs were launched in spring of 2018 as a way to engage the downtown public in a lead up to the Monumental Mile, which takes place on the first Thursday in June. Due to participant enthusiasm, the program returned in the fall months in advance of the Indy Half Marathon at Fort Ben and CNO Financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K.
“These runs and walks are a great way for us to get outside in the middle of the day and get to know our participants within the downtown community in a friendly, casual setting,” said Jed Cornforth, Executive Director, Beyond Monumental. “Getting people active and moving is what we’re all about. Through these meet ups, we’re able to reach people who might not be ready to sign up for their first 5K or major event yet, but are looking for a supportive environment to make a healthy activity part of their work day.”
Monumental Lunch Runs feature pace groups from walking pace to 7:30 minutes per mile, are thirty-minutes in duration, on a pre-set route through downtown. Participants will receive complimentary Aquafina water and CLIF bars after the run, as well as an entry to a grand prize drawing for a Monumental Prize Pack at the end of the month for every run they attend. Complimentary lockers and showers are available courtesy of the YMCA at City Market. As a special bonus to participants, the first meetup of the series will have Athletic Annex and Circle City Kombucha on site.
