Fast Times, Family Fun, & Friendly Competition: this Saturday at the 2024 Indianapolis 5K & Monumental Mile
The Indianapolis 5K & Monumental Mile is back to downtown Indianapolis this weekend and will take place on Saturday, June 22, 2024. The Indianapolis 5K returns for the second year and highlights the 11th running of the Monumental Mile with nearly 1,000 participants expected.
Things to Watch:
- Elite Athletes will chase a $2,000 prize purse, and $500 time bonuses of sub-4:00.00 (men) and sub-4:30.00 (women). Athletes of note include:
– The 2024 Men’s Elite Field could see a new course and event record, with the right conditions and competition. Highlighting the Men’s Field includes University of Indianapolis athlete Harnoor Dosanjh; former University of Kentucky athlete and Kentucky’s #6 All-Time Fastest Miler Dylan Allen; Grace College alum, NAIA Champion, & 7-time NAIA All-American, Dimitri Margaritidis; NCAA DII All-American and current Assistant XC & TF Coach at University of Southern Indiana, Austin Nolan; and rounding out top 5 is Andrew Taylor, 2024 Butler University graduate as our top returner, finishing third overall in 2023. – Headlining the 2024 Women’s Elite Field is returning 2023 Monumental Mile Champion & 4-time Horizon League Champion, Shelby Nolan who blew away the field last year in 4:54. Challenging Nolan will be Hannah Stoffel who was a top-10 finisher at the 2024 Indy Mini; former University of Southern Indiana athlete and school record holder Emma Brown, University of Indianapolis graduate student Hadley Fisher, former Indiana University athlete and 4:41.5 miler Haley Harris.– On the masters’ side, the athletes to watch for include Mark Guyer, who placed 3rd overall in the USATF Masters 1-Mile National Championships in 2023 and Bryan Lindsay, 3-time NCAA All-American, the 2023 USATF Masters 1-Mile National Champion, and a lifetime mile PR of 3:59. Lining up in the Women’s Elite Field, Hidi Gaff finished 3rd overall in the USATF Masters 1-Mile National Championships in 2023 and second in the 40-44 division.
- National Age Group Record Attempt, and what to know:
– Dan King, multi-time American Age Group Record holder, will attempt to set a new national record for the 65-69 division on Saturday, June 22 in the Masters Wave. The current record stands at 5:18 by Tom Bernhard set in 2016. - Presentation of Awards to winning companies in the Monumental Corporate Cup, a corporate wellness program created by Beyond Monumental to support Central Indiana organization’s goals of health & wellness.
Traffic Advisory:
Multiple closures and lane restrictions will be in place on Saturday, June 22 for the Indianapolis 5K & Monumental Mile:
The northbound lanes of Meridian St. between New York St. & St. Joseph St. will be restricted from 5:30 a.m. New York Street will be closed from Meridian Street to Pennsylvania Street from 5:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Three lanes on Pennsylvania St. between St. Joseph St & Washington St. will be restricted beginning 6:30 a.m. through 11:00 a.m.
The streets surrounding the American Legion Mall, including St Clair, North, Michigan, Vermont, New York, and Ohio will be impacted and have rolling road closures from 7:20 a.m. through 11:00 a.m. Traffic will be allowed to cross between races. The east half of Monument Circle will be closed for the 5K race from 7:30 a.m. until it is safe to reopen for participants (approx. 8:15 a.m.). Please note that northbound Illinois St. and Delaware St., as well as southbound Pennsylvania St. and Capitol Ave. will not be affected.

The Indianapolis 5K & Monumental Mile has a race for everyone and attracts runners and walkers of all ages and abilities. The 2024 race has a full slate of races throughout the morning including a 5K, a Doggie Dash, and Non-Competitive Community, Youth, Masters, Open and Elite divisions of the 1-Mile. For the first-time ever, all participants will get to take home the inaugural Finishers Medal upon crossing the finish line.
