FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Monumental Moments Shine at 2025 Indianapolis 5K & Monumental Mile

INDIANAPOLIS – June 21, 2025 – The 12th Indianapolis 5K & Monumental Mile delivered another memorable race day bringing nearly 1,200 participants to University Park on Saturday morning. Runners, walkers, pups, and elite athletes all took to the streets for a fast and festive day of racing through the heart of the city.

The event featured two signature distances – the Indianapolis 5K and the fan-favorite Monumental Mile – each offering its own share of drama, celebration, and standout performances. New champions were crowned and fast times flew down Meridian Street in what’s quickly become a must-do summer tradition.

The Indianapolis 5K brought the heat, with Robert Hohlman setting the pace at 15:35 and claiming the 2025 title in dominant fashion. The third-annual 5K saw a new women’s champion as Hannah Bast took home the 2025 title in a time of 16:57. The event continues to grow in both participation and performance, building on the excitement from 2024’s record-breaking race.

In the Elite Women’s Mile, Mikayla Reed claimed the top spot with an impressive finish in 4:43, followed by Hannah Stoffel and Jess Backherms, rounding out a strong podium in 4:47 and 5:00 respectively. On the Men’s side, the race came down to the wire as Ben Nagel edged out the competition in a thrilling finish of 4:04, with Jed Helker and Tony Tonkovich just seconds behind.

Both USATF Masters 1 Mile National Championship races saw exciting finishes, with Indiana’s own Chad Carver taking the men’s title at the line in 4:25. Michelle Rohl of Pennsylvania, ran away with the women’s title in 5:10, nearly ten seconds ahead of second.

One of the morning’s most heartwarming highlights came from the Doggie Dash, benefitting the Friends of Indy Animals, proving that Monumental race day isn’t just for humans. Matt Peterson and his pup crossed the finish line at 4:45, besting the previous event record by more than 15 seconds. Four-legged friends (and their owners) trotted proudly through the streets, adding fun and flair to the festivities.

The celebration didn’t stop at the finish line. Three standout organizations were honored as winners of the 2025 Monumental Corporate Cup, recognizing their commitment to workplace wellness through both participation and volunteerism. This year’s champions included Athletic Annex (Small Business), Brooks Running (Medium Business), and CNO Financial Group (Large Business).
