7th Annual Event will Switch to Virtual Experience Due to COVID-19 Pandemic
The 7th Annual Monumental Mile, originally scheduled for June 4 on Monument Circle, will now be a virtual event experience due the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Registrants will receive a participant tank and race bib prior to the event date and be able to come together, at a distance, by sharing their results and participation online.
Virtual events have grown in popularity recently and especially in 2020, with many in-person running events making the switch to an online platform so participants can still finish the race while observing social distancing. Participants register, run the prescribed distance at the location of their choice and submit their results online.
“While we’re disappointed about not being able to celebrate running on Monument Circle like we have in previous years, we’re excited to give people a chance to share the joy of participating in a one mile event by bringing our online community together,” said Jed Cornforth, executive director of Beyond Monumental, “It’s exciting that in 2020 we can expand our celebration to all of Indiana and beyond because we’re no longer limited to a local geographic audience. Anyone who can move for one mile can now participate!”
Registration for the Monumental Mile is $20 (processing fees included) and includes a high-performance, gender-specific race singlet, custom printed race bib, CLIF Bar, and free shipping for all items. Participants can enter to win prizes by submitting their results and/or using #MonumentalMile2020 when posting about their Monumental Mile on social media platforms. Those who were registered prior to the event going virtual were given the option to participate virtually, donate their entry fee, defer to 2021 or request a full refund.
Registration is available now at www.MonumentalMile.com
